Welcome all subscribers to the first issue of the Writer’s Block Corner Newsletter!

Here we wish to encourage your compulsion to write and to help you on your way to publishing, perhaps, for the first time or for those of you that are struggling to help you along your way towards success.

It’s a dual effort – we need your manuscripts to read, so we can compile them into ebooks ready to sell online at our website, yet we will publish your articles, short stories, or poems FREE in our bookcase section that you can browse and read to your hearts content.

However, if you get enough stories or poems together in that section of our site and feel confident about selling them, we can put them into ebook form to market, publish, and sell for you.

In these newsletters, we intend to give you some tips and tricks on writing as well as to get your brain ticking over with abundant ideas of how to write a story, book, poem, or article or for those less confident to polish and edit to a publishing standard.

Ebooks are not entirely a new idea but publishing on the Net is definitely a brave new world but is instantly accessible to anyone with the craving to write and publish. The medium is open to everybody, not just to college graduates, tutors, journalists, or best selling novelists.

The rule of publishing for first time writers trying to break into the literary world is get a book agent, though they’ll tell you to get a publisher, and they will probably redirect you back to the book agent.

No publisher in the traditional market simply means most new writers go unpublished.

It’s a Catch 22 situation, but the Internet opens doors where previously they’ve been shut for the majority of budding authors.

Welcome the Internet, it’s here, it’s evolved, it’s alive, rampant and will swallow vast amounts of information for anyone wanting to view it.

The same goes for books (ebooks), so here at Writer’s Block Corner we encourage and welcome new authors.

The home computer now gives you the opportunity, right from your living room to publish, market and sell your works of fiction, non-fiction, short stories, or poems.

As stated, your numerous articles can be published in the special section of the site for FREE to get your work viewed by anyone that wants to read them.

It is written on the site; ‘don't keep all those short stories you fear you can't publish to yourself! Someone wants to read them...! So if someone wants to read them, everyone can have the opportunity to read them!’

This is the aim of Writer’s Block Corner. We want to publish your work, market it, and sell it for you all in one place that will be downloaded right after purchase.

We will sell at the going rate of a published book in a shop, as if right from their bookshelf.

We will put a glossy cover (graphic) on it and the icon to open the ebook will match your book (ebook) displayed at the site, so the purchaser will buy an ebook, just like in a bookshop and will open the cover the same as an authentic book, but electronically via their computer.

To achieve this and to give the best service we can offer we need your feedback.

The format of these newsletters can be attributed to your questions sent in weekly. Our aim is to work together, the dual process of putting together an effective site for everyone to use.

High Stress Connected to Illness.
For many years health professionals have speculated that stress can lower a person's immune response to disease. A new study appears to lend scientific proof to those speculations. This study comes from Ohio State University and the results will appear in the November/December issue of the Journal of Psychosomatic Medicine.
This latest study is just one of many that have looked at immune response to stress, but it is the first to have such important findings for the senior adult and elderly population.
The study looked at how well a pneumonia vaccination will protect the elderly patients that receive the shot as recommended. The results of the study are especially important as bacterial pneumonia and the influenza that can cause it are the fourth leading causes of death for people over the age of 75.
There were 52 participants in the study, all older adults who had never received a pneumonia vaccine before. Of this group three-quarters were women. This group of participants was divided into three groups. Eleven participants were currently the primary caregiver for a spouse who was suffering from dementia, and thirteen were former caregivers whose spouses had since died. The remaining 28 participants had never been caregivers and became the control group.
Stress caused by dealing with the day to day needs of loved ones with dementia has been well documented and is of great concern with a rapidly aging population. Previous studies have shown that this type of chronic stress can impair the caregiver's immune system.
All study participants were given psychological tests to evaluate their current level of stress, and they also had blood drawn for various lab tests that evaluated their immune status. After the pre-study tests were completed all participants received a vaccine that helps protect against pneumococcal pneumonia. This bacterial infection is the most common cause of pneumonia in people who have had influenza. The blood tests were then repeated at intervals of two weeks, one month, three months and six months after they had received the pneumonia vaccination.
The blood tests showed that all the participants had a positive response at first to the vaccine. A positive response is measured by the levels of an antibody that the body produces in response to the vaccine. In subsequent blood tests the immune response of the former caregivers and those who had never been caregivers remained at the same level. But at the end of the six months of the study the current caregivers - who remained in a very stressful caregiving situation - showed a dramatic drop in their immune response.
Implications For Caregivers
This study points out the need and importance of support and assistance from the community and society as a whole for those family caregivers who are providing much needed care for their loved ones. Without these caregivers the health care system might well be overwhelmed with the care of patients with dementia. As the population ages the need for support will become more acute. In his announcement proclaiming November as National Family Caregivers Month, President Clinton noted "Caregivers often pay an emotional and physical price as well as a financial one. Few enjoy any free time because they must juggle the demands of home and work while meeting the special needs of the individuals in their care. Many do not have the support of other family members or friends and consequently experience depression, a sense of isolation, and the stress of knowing they must carry out their important duties alone. Studies have indicated that such caregiver stress can have a physical consequence, contributing to a higher mortality rate among elderly caregivers who themselves have a history of chronic illness." His proposal for a National Family Caregiver Support Program to provide respite care and other support should help to ease the stress of caregiving.
In the meantime the lead author of the study report, Ron Glaser of Ohio State University suggests that all elderly Americans avoid getting their annual flu and pneumonia shots while they are under stress in order to receive the greatest benefit from the vaccination. If they are highly stressed they should reschedule the shots until they have been able to deal with and reduce the stressful situation.

Nimesh and his two worlds(A story about the presence)
If anyone had told him in 1993 that he would live in two optimallyfunctioning worlds at the same time in 2004, Nimesh would have declared that person out of his mind. To be honest, in those days he had hardly heard of the Internet, let alone dared to dream that he would ever become so involved in it!
And now he was sitting here, in the small but well-furnished office he hadordered to be built annex his house in Vlaanderen, Belgium. He felt good and satisfied about his accomplishments so far. He leaned back and reminisced about the course his life took in the past 10 years:
It had all started in 1993, when he became eligible for a student exchangeprogram between the U.S. and India. Nimesh was a star graduate from Punjab University, where he had also been teaching for a couple of years now.
Arriving in America, he enrolled into a university with beautiful view onthe mysterious Pacific. That was where he earned his Masters degree inBusiness Administration within 18 months. From there – it was 1995 at the time – things moved into a rapid. While he enrolled and devoted himself to a doctoral education at yet another university, he accepted a job at one of the local, world famous film studios as marketing director. Nevertheless, Nimesh felt his interest in the Internet growing, and started looking for ways to apply the knowledge he gained through his MBA education through thismedium.
One of the first things he did was to teach himself how to develop aprofessional website. Yes, complete with pictures. His friends in the U.S.had explained to him how important it was to have a Web presence in order to establish a trust relationship. For how easy and handy wasn’t it to just hand potential contacts your URL, so that they could review yourinformation, with resume and all. How time- and energy efficient too!
For his doctoral study Nimesh had to conduct a respectable amount ofresearch on the Net, which only enhanced his curiosity and insights intothis dynamic phenomenon. He maintained regular email contact with hisprevious colleagues in Punjab and got approached by one of them for a vacant position in another Indian city: Bangalore. They were planning on creating a new center for global service, and he could obtain an important position there if he wanted.
As soon as his doctoral education was finalized Nimesh stepped on a plane to Bangalore. It was 1999, and the global center was fully under construction. But Nimesh wasted no time: with his knowledge and skillfulness regarding the Net, he started to build an immense network. He established contacts with companies of all origins and in all corners of the world, registered them in a database, and regularly emailed them an overview of the available services from Bangalore.
The responses did not take too long to arrive. For let’s be fair: businessprimarily spins around the bottom line. And it was a simple calculation forglobally performing organizations in the writing, analyst, electro-technical, organizational-behavioral, economical, architectural, hydraulic, judicial, radiological, tax-developmental, and service-providing sectors to see that they would have to pay an hourly rate to the Bangalorians that was way lower than what they were paying their local workers. And with today’s fast transmissions, there would be no delay in getting the job done, nor a decrease in quality of the job!
Slowly but surely the concept of traveling on the digital highway turnedinto the most profitable alternative for a growing number of companies andworkers throughout the world.
In 2002, Nimesh moved to Belgium, as he fell in love with the Flemisch and wanted to escape the ever-increasing crowdedness of Bangalore. Besides, he could do his job as professional matchmaker and executive consultant from practically every part of the world. He did his banking on the Net; shopped on the Net; gave work-orders to his two assistants, one in the Netherlands and one in the global center in Bangalore, through the Net; lectured two online classes, one in Australia and one in the U.S., through the Net; and had even met his lovely wife Marianne, a South African beauty, on the Net.
For Nimesh there was practically no reason to leave his home and comfortable office, his contact point with the world. And IF he had to travel, and that happened 4 times a year when he led his quarterly seminars in Bangalore and Punjab, he just took his office with him, in a practical handheld device with wireless connection, of course. Nimesh had deliberately kept the activity of traveling to the seminar locations this way, as he wanted to maintain some physical connection with humanity. A few times, he had chaired an online seminar, and the results were phenomenal: For that occasion there had been participating members from 5 continents, and no one had been required to engage in expensive, tiresome traveling, with hotel reservation, car rentals, and all the other discomforts that go along with it.
Oh well, a human being should see something of the old, familiar world,right? Or would this wish be perfect past tense before too long?

It is better to live in serene poverty than in hectic affluence. Everything has a price. The price for nurturing your soul is turning away from excessive stress, destruction of self-respect, and the constant strive in lifestyle with the Joneses. But it’s worth it.
